Professor Guo-Juin Hong (AMES) will introduce the film and moderate the post-screening discussion with filmmaker Liu Xiaoqian.
Director's film note:
In my hometown, the memory of past hunger is still alive. Talk of the reality of death permeates the everyday.
The threats of death in the past and the deaths we face now, becoming something that people cannot rely on and cannot shake off.
About the director:
Liu Xiaoqian is originally from Xinzhou, Shanxi. In January 2021, she participated in the Folk Memory Project and started to go back to her village to record. In the process of shooting these documentary films, she is also getting to know herself and understanding herself.
Her completed works include Baijiashan Zhengxiang (2022) and The Death of Baijiashan (2024).
