This talk will focus on the experiences of five individuals, all victims of the 1945 atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Japan, whom Susan Southard interviewed over a period of twelve years.

Through their experiences, she will describe the human cost of the bombing, the struggles of survivors to rebuild their lives, and the global activism of hibakusha (atomic bomb survivors). 

About the speaker

Susan Southard is the author of Nagasaki: Life After Nuclear War, winner of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize and the J/ Anthony Lukas Book Prize, featured A Best Book of the Year by The Washington Post, The Economist, The American Library Association, and Kirkus Review.
