APSI students afield: Karen and Summer's North Carolina Adventure

Participating in academic conferences is a valuable experience for graduate students, and APSI provides both moral and financial support to make these opportunities possible for students studying Asia at Duke.
During the spring of 2026, Summer Wu and Karen Shi, first-year MA students in the East Asian Studies program, traveled to Elizabeth City in eastern NC for the North Carolina Association of Historians conference. Inspired by Dr. Wang’s travel blog, they decided to document the trip.
