In mid-August 2021, a group of talented and enthusiastic scholars arrived in Durham for the first time, eager to begin in-person classes at Duke. Though this cohort includes newly-matriculated students as well as those beginning the second year of their EAS-MA studies, all had one important element in common: none had previously been on campus.

After a week of orientation activities, our new students stand ready to begin classes during the first week of the fall term, which starts August 23. Most of the classes will be in-person, though some remain in a hybrid or completely online format.

Although these EAS-MA students have come to Durham from various parts of the U.S. and Asia, they are joined by a few classmates who have opted to pursue their education remotely. This ongoing flexibility remains a key part of Duke's commitment to supporting the health and safety of our community.

All of the APSI staff and faculty very much look forward to seeing these students advance their academic goals over the coming year.
