During APSI's orientation, the incoming students showed a clear mix of excitement and trepidation as their academic adventure begins at Duke, though it is clear that these talented young people are well on their way to a successful program of study. Several second-year students were on hand to meet with their junior classmates and to reassure them about the support that APSI provides amid the rigor of this graduate degree.

Orientation week concluded on Friday with a social mixer for all graduate students and faculty engaged in East Asian Studies at Duke, including several PhD candidates who stopped by for additional networking opportunities. The final event was a thorough introduction to the materials and resources available in East Asian Collection of the Duke University Libraries led by Chinese Studies librarian Luo Zhou.
