Dr. Kristina Troost of Duke University is the 2020 and the inaugural recipient of the Council on East Asian Libraries (CEAL) Distinguished Service Award.

This prestigious award honors an individual CEAL member who has made significant contributions to library and information services, to East Asian libraries, and to the East Asian studies community.

From the announcement, "Dr. Troost's creativity, leadership and scholarship in service to East Asian Libraries and East Asian Studies are abundantly exemplified by the exhaustive list of her activities and accomplishments throughout her career."

In order to praise and promote CEAL members’ outstanding contributions to East Asian librarianship, the CEAL president (2018-2020) proposed and the CEAL Executive Board (EB) approved the establishment of the CEAL Distinguished Service Award as the organization’s highest recognition for an individual CEAL member who exemplifies distinguished service to East Asian Librarianship and East Asian Studies.
