On August 22 and 23, 2019, six new students met with APSI faculty and staff as part of the official start to their MA in East Asian Studies program. Spanning a diverse range of academic backgrounds and interests, these talented students are ready to dive into their studies and experience life at Duke and in Durham.
All incoming EAS-MA students will take the new core course, EAS 700-01, East Asian Studies: Fields and Methods. This survey course will introduce a broad array of disciplinary approaches to studying the East Asian region. Students will hear from Duke faculty as well as visiting scholars with extensive policy experience. Looking ahead, this will be the required core course for new EAS-MA students, though it will be open to students from other majors who are interested in exploring the field of East Asian Studies at Duke.
