My name is Jiayang Cai. I received a B.A. in French Studies from Wesleyan University.  For much of my undergraduate work has centered on the intersections of nationalism, colonialism, war, memory, racism, ethnicity, and gender, I remain interested in how interactions with empires continue to affect us in tangled ways today and how traumatic memory is constructed, contested, and commemorated in various Asian contexts. Currently, I’m also interested in exploring how people, and Chinese youth in particular, navigate worlds of increasingly diminishing opportunities and lost envisioned futures.
