I am Leo (Shangquan) Lyu. I earned my B.A. degree from an international affairs program at Beijing Foreign Studies University. Following graduation, I explored comparative literature and creative writing, but finally settled for East Asian studies, as I really care about the post-socialist transformations within the Chinese society, marked by apparent disparities and conflicting ideologies. On that topic, I enjoy ethnography and discourse analysis as research methods and everyday life as a focal point. I find it interesting to investigate social trends through the shifting cultural meanings of words. School stuff apart, I'm a YouTube-taught philosophy nerd, and a big fan of poetry and theater, video games, J-pop, and everything French – I have fallen prey to the baguette language for many years.
