My name is Siyu, also known as Maggie. I obtained my Master's in Social Science from University College London in the UK. My academic journey has been diverse, starting with Quantitative Higher Education and Psychology during my undergraduate years. At UCL, my research interests shifted towards sociology and anthropology, conducting ethnographic research in Tibet on ethnic migrants, labor, and spatial production. During this period, I was fascinated by the ancillary industries and human-land relationships brought about by the matsutake mushroom economy. Prior to my current academic pursuits, I worked as a researcher for an NGO dedicated to improving rural and marginal region education in China, which sparked my passion for issues related to rural-urban migration in China and the challenges faced by marginalized communities. Now, I have a keen interest in the socio-economic dynamics, social mobility, and migrant labor in Tibet and border regions.
