East Asian Studies MA student

I am Iris Wu. I received my B.S. degree in Quantitative Sciences (Economics Track) and B.A. degree in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Emory University. During my undergraduate studies, I explored both quantitative and qualitative research opportunities. In my junior year, I conducted research on identifying gender bias in large language models. My honors thesis investigated how authoritarian regimes historically exploited gendered discourse to achieve political objectives while repressing women’s voices and the developing coping mechanisms of feminists.

My current research interests focus on authoritarianism, women’s history in Modern China, and digital humanities. In the future, I hope to narrow down my research interests and enhance my research skills. In addition, I would love to learn how to utilize my skills in quantitative sciences as tools for qualitative research.

Beyond academics, I love traveling and boxing. I also love binge watching TV series as a means of relaxation.
