APSI’s affiliate programs enable Duke University students and faculty to engage in collaborative exchanges that advance research and scholarship related to individual countries and cultures as well as connections between regions across a range of academic disciplines.
Global Asia Initiative
The Global Asia Initiative at Duke looks at Asian nations, cultures and civilizations in terms of their connections, interactions and interdependencies in both historical and geographical space. It supports research on topics that are collaborative and interdisciplinary. GAI joined the Social Science Research Council’s (SSRC) Inter-Asian Connections program as a Coordinating Partner and a hub for nodal research activities in March 2016.
Korea Forum
The Duke Korea Forum is a community at Duke University and the Research Triangle Area concerned about issues related to the culture, society, history, and politics of the Korean peninsula. Events are scheduled throughout the year.
Southeast Asia Research Group
The Southeast Asia Research Group (SEAREG) is a network of scholars that highlights outstanding new research by social scientists working at the forefront of Southeast Asian studies.
Triangle Center for Japanese Studies
Established by faculty from Duke, UNC-CH, and NC State, the Triangle Center for Japanese Studies encourages inter-institutional collaboration and provides resources for the development and promotion of Japanese Studies and Japan-related education throughout the Triangle and the Southeast.
Triangle East Asia Colloquium
The Triangle East Asia Colloquium (TEAC) has been providing scholarly exchange opportunities among East Asian specialists since 1972. Each spring, one Triangle university (Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, or NC State) hosts a colloquium involving local faculty as well as outside scholars.
